One of the many benefits of being part of a through school is having access to a broad range of subject specialist resources and practitioners.
All pupils, from Reception upwards, are taught Spanish, Music, Drama, PE and Games by subject specialists who also teach in the Senior School, with use of the purpose-built Performing Arts Centre and Sports Hall.
In addition to this, pupils in Years 3-6 have all year-round timetabled lessons for Food & Nutrition and Design and Technology, also benefiting from the use of the specialist suites associated with them.
Pupils in Years 5 and 6, as part of their transition and extension provision, are also taught their Science by specialist teachers in the Senior School laboratories.
11+ Preparation
As a through school, Gosfield School pupils benefit immeasurably from a single school for their entire learning journey. Many pupils join us in Gosfield Nursery and leave us with great outcomes at A Level. Through their journey, our teaching staff get to know them so well and can ensure that their learning is maximised at every stage and in a manner that is appropriate to their progress. And of course, our pupils get to know our staff very well too!
However, some pupils also join our Prep School with the aim of achieving a good pass in the 11+ examination and move to a Grammar School. We are fully supportive of pupils that wish to do this, and we start Verbal Reasoning in Year 3 in preparation and also run an 11+ activity after school. We are always naturally sad to see our successful 11+ pupils leave us, but our priority is the educational path that is right for each individual.
