U15 Rugby - Gosfield 28 New Eccles 12

Tuesday 3rd October

New Eccles came to Gosfield a vastly improved side from last year. Our boys all looked resplendent in black Gosfield rugby shirts and played some fantastic rugby to win convincingly 28-12.

With some Year 10 students not in school due to a gruelling Duke of Edinburgh expedition at the weekend, the Year nine students stepped up to the plate and put in some spectacular tackles. Max Patmore, new at scrum half did a sterling job at getting the ball out to our back line who did most of the damage. New Eccles had some big, physically strong, boys and going through the middle was hard work. Over time the boys wore the opposition down and gaps started to appear. Just about all the boys on the pitch put in a fantastic run, and there wasn't a hot potato in sigh the whole game. Of particular note was the ferocity in contact of Ben McQuillan, the dancing feet of Ben Wyss, the quick thinking of Max Patmore and the face first tackling of any number of boys including a memorable one by James Middleton in the second half.

A particular mention goes to Kai Murphy who went in the scrum at second row and did a fantastic job, and Max Bartlett who took on the biggest person on the field front on and lived to tell the tale!

Well done to the all the boys, who showed resilience when going five points down and playing brilliantly to come back and win.

U11 Rugby - Gosfield 5 Stoke College 6

Monday 25th September

The first game of the season found an exciting climax! A mixture of Year five and Six boys got stuck into Stoke and played some excellent rugby, particularly for their first ever game. Of special note were performances from Edward Flynn Haddon and Harry Whitwood who showed fantastic leadership abilities by leading the way and organising the other players in both defence and attack. Edward was a particularly good runner with a string of good carries that led to tries. Robert Blackbourn also showed a keen eye for a try with some excellent support work; as did Joe Lynch who ran nearly the length of the pitch to score a try to put us level at five tries a piece with a minute to go. Unfortunately with almost the last play of the game Stoke went over for a try to win 6-5. Overall the boys made great strides in their knowledge of the game of rugby and will come out of this game al the richer for it. Many thanks to the parents who came to watch, I know the boys fully appreciate the support from the sidelines. Well done boys!

U14 Rugby - Kings Ely 28 Gosfield 19

Tuesday 15th November

Gosfield made the long trip to Ely and started off playing against a mixture of A and B team players. The opposition were a little taken aback by the strength of the Gosfield forwards and Michael Freeman capitalised with an excellent early try. Fearing a defeat, the opposition continually strengthened their side, taking a slender 14-12 lead into half time. Chris Crowley was outstanding and scored an excellent try to take the lead early in the second half. Further replacements by the opposition saw them run out victors by 28-19. Year 8 players Charlie Bell, Makai Brown and Kyran Trevain should be commended on their wholehearted efforts. Well done boys.

U16 Rugby - Cambridge International 33 Gosfield 31

Thursday 4th November

Gosfield took a large squad of players to compete in a rugby match against Cambridge International School. Unfortunately CIS were down on numbers so the match was reduced to 9 aside. Gosfield rather sportingly gave every boy a run and in so doing cost themselves victory, this however, was not the goal and was acknowledged by our opposition. It was really pleasing to see the effort of all players, in what turned out to be a very high standard, entertaining match.

U11 Tag Rugby - Cambridge International v Gosfield

Wednesday 2nd November

All boys in year 5 and 6 took part in a very entertaining series of matches against Cambridge International School. Evasive running was much more evident from both teams than determined tagging as big scores abounded. Honours were evenly shared in the 6 matches, 4 draws, 1 win and 1 loss. All boys should be commended for the spirit and endeavour shown.
