Cut Hedge Trophy 2014 Results

Congratulations to all runners who took part in the annual Cut Hedge cross country competition. It was an action packed morning with some brilliant performances. In the year 5 and 6 races there was over 160 boys and girls competing for the Cut Hedge trophy. Despite adverse ground conditions the event was very well attended with over 14 schools competing.

Well done to all those pupils who represented Gosfield School you should all be very proud of your achievements. A special mention has to go to the following pupils who made it into the top 20 competitors in each of the races. Imogen Brooks came 12th and Esther Wilkins came 14th in the year 7 and 8 combined race. In the year 7 and 8 boys’ race well done to Ben Wyss who came 9th and Tom Dixon who came 12th. This is very impressive especially as most pupils were competing against pupils who belonged to the older age group.

In the year 7 and 8 race the winning team in both the boys and girls category were Felsted. Congratulations to all their runners. In the year 5 and 6 girls race the winning team was Notley Green Primary School and in the year 5 and 6 boys race New Hall were the overall winners. The combined results mean that the Cut hedge Trophy winners were Notley Green Primary School. This is a fabulous achievement especially as this is the first time the school has entered the event. Lastly a special thank you to all schools, staff, spectators and helpers who supported on the day. Gosfield School hope you enjoyed the competition and look forward to welcoming you back to next year’s event.

ISA Cross Country 2014 - UPDATE

Due to extremely poor ground conditions I am regretfully informing you that there will be some changes to next week’s scheduled ISA Regional Cross Country Competition.

As you must be aware the weather has been uncooperative and with more rain expected over the coming week the conditions simply are not going to improve. For health and safety reasons it has been agreed with the area sports coordinator that limited races will run. I am pleased to announce that a year 5 and 6 boys race and a year 5 and 6 girls race will run as well as a year 7 and 8 boys race and a year 7 and 8 girls race. The decision had been made not to run a year 4 race as their competition has no qualification for the national rounds and it is simply unsafe for them to run in these conditions. An opportunity will follow where teachers can put forward times for pupils in year 9 and above to enable a regional team to be selected for the national competition. Richard will be in touch regarding this matter.

Consequently new routes will be planned for next Thursday so please ignore previous routes. Please can I ask staff to select their team taking the ground conditions into consideration and only send those pupils who you feel will cope. I will be running my pupils in football boots which will be taped. I would not recommend running in spikes or trainers. I cannot stress enough that it is teachers’ responsibility to make the decision whether to take part and if you feel the ground conditions are unsuitable for your pupils please email us to inform us of your decision.

Just a reminder that team entries need to be completed by the end of the school day this Thursday. All entries already received in the new races 1 – 4 for years 5, 6, 7 and 8 will stand unless we hear to the contrary.

Again, apologies for the changes but we strongly feel this decision has been made with the competitors’ best interest.
