Cut Hedge Trophy Results 2011

Cross Country Success

Congratulations to Luke Allen in Year 7 who has been chosen to represent Essex in the Under 13 cross country team.  His first national race will take place in February.

Cross Country Success

Luke Allen and Emma Lovegrove from Year 7 took part in the first 53-12 Cross Country League Race in Harwich on Sunday 6 November.  This League consists of 6 races across Essex and Suffolk during the winter months with the courses approximately 2k.  With athletes up to the age of 17 racing, and some of the top running clubs in the area competing, this is always a tough competition.  In a field of 72 athletes both had amazing runs with Luke crossing the line first for Halstead Road Runners and Emma first girl under 13.  Overall Luke Allen came 3rd and Emma Lovegrove 8th.  Congratulations to both of you.

Duathlon 2012

The sun shone yet again for the third Gosfield School Duathlon. Students from Gosfield and from the surrounding area gathered on the perimeter of the cricket pitch. Currently undergoing its facelift for the future cricketers of the school, the competitors had to run round the area for various laps (depending on their category) to start the first leg of the morning races.

A Duathlon consists of three legs, a long run, bike ride and a short run. Many of the competitors were first timers, but the race was also graced by some experienced local tri athletes, particularly in the youth section, and others who have taken part since the first race in 2010.

First off were the youths and tri star 3 competitors, and after an excellent leg 1 run one of the pre race favourites in the youth section, Josh Banning, had a 45sec lead over Gosfield student Connor Hume. As they headed off on the bike leg, both were very closely followed by eventual winner Thomas Littlewood, who not only caught them on the bike section, but gave himself such a lead that despite running further than he needed to on the final run, still won the whole race by over a minute.

In the Tristar 3 category there was a real battle going on between two Gosfield students, Will Ambrose and Luke Robinson. Luke gave himself a big lead in the first run section, enough to let Will pull back some time on the bike. Luke, however, managed to pull away again in the final run to cross the line first. A few minutes later he was joined by sister Laura who had steadily made her way around the course to complete a family double of wins and to also retain the title she won last year.

The Tristar 2 and 1 age groups were ready to go once they had seen the older groups racing by. As usual with the younger age groups, regardless of being advised ‘not to go off too fast’, they still set off like a cavalry charge. The pace however soon steadied to a more sensible pace and the pack were headed by Noe Delaune and the two Lovegrove sisters, Emma and Vicky, all of whom posted fast first leg run times. Noe continued to be too strong for his male rivals, despite being chased all the way by Sam Jones and Henry Travanion. Meanwhile the family battle was eventually won by Emma Lovegrove, although it might not be too long before younger sister Vicky has her revenge.

Defending Tristar 1 champion Declan Cameron continued to show his class, particularly on the bike section. He won the youngest age group by quite a way - there is future hope for the others though, as he will be going up an age group next year! Finally a big well done to Ellisha Hunt who despite being the only female Tristar 1, performed really well, even giving the boys a run for their money.

The Gosfield student Duathlon Cup was won this year by Luke Robinson.
