U14 Football - National Tournament

Monday 30th January

Gosfield travelled to Nottingham to compete with 19 other U14 teams from all over England in this well run tournament. Gosfield's first match was against Red House from Manchester who would go on to just miss out on winning the final of the whole event. A brilliant goal from George Redfern saw Gosfield lead with just 3 minutes remaining, when a few moments of madness saw the opposition grab an unlikely victory. Gosfield learnt from this and simply got better with every game - winning all their remaining matches against Queen Ethelburgas, Argyle, Huddersfield and Hull. This resulted in Gosfield winning the 'Plate' competition for teams that finished second in their pool. Effectively this placed Gosfield in fifth behind the four pool winners. Every boy played in every game and each made a huge contribution to the success of the day. Charlie Bell was excellent in goal whilst Ben McQuillan was an absolute rock in defence. Michael Freeman and Chris Crowley defended with great strength and in the midfield Sam Hume and Freddie Bowers worked hard throughout the matches to provide quality ball. George Redfern and Tom Dickson were difficult to stop up front, both scoring and assisting some brilliant goals. Without doubt though, the most influential player on the pitch for Gosfield was Ben Wyss. His workrate and skill netting him at least seven goals and more often than not he stopped opposition attacks in their tracks and turned them into opportunities for his team. A very big well done to all the boys and thanks to parents who came and supported.

U14 XI Football - Kings Ely B 2 Gosfield 6

Tuesday 24th January

Gosfield made the long journey to Ely and after an intial period where play was very even, Gosfield took control of the match and were never headed. Despite missing some key players, every boy stepped up to the mark. Captain for the day, Tom Dickson led from the front and showed great skill to hammer home the first goal. George Redfern made the most of his opportunities and scored the first of his brace just before half time. Kings fought back with a fortunate goal to make it 2-1 to Gosfield at half time. The second half was again very even and at 3-2 with 10 minutes to go, Gosfield asserted their superiority with another four goals. Michael Freeman was very solid in the midfield and linked up well with Freddie Bowers to create several opportunities. All players should be congratulated on a very well deserved result.

U11 VII Football - St Margarets vs Gosfield

Wednesday 18th January

Gosfield A 2 v St Margaret's 7

The score was not a true reflection of the match with Gosfield not taking the chances on offer to them whilst St Margaret's capitalised almost every time. Whilst the opposition deserved their win, Gosfield can take a lot of heart from their first match this term.

Gosfield B 8 v St Margaret's 0

Gosfield thoroughly dictated this match from start to finish with Harry D scoring 5 goals in a terrific performance. Joe S also scored a hat trick as Gosfield combined well to complete a well deserved win.

U14 Football - Finborough 2 Gosfield 5

Tuesday 17th January

Gosfield travelled to Finborough with depleted numbers due to illness and unavailability. A 10 aside match ensued and Gosfield quickly put their stamp on the game. Ben McQuillan and Tom Dickson combined brilliantly up front and with Kyron Moon and Freddie Bowers creating many opportunities, Gosfield led 3-0 at the break. Finborough fought back briefly in the second half but another goal to Tom and a great finish from George Redfern ensured the visitors went home with a well deserved win.
